Giving Thanks: 9 Food Banks to Support in the West Valley

    According to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, “nearly 30% of our [Arizona] neighbors are considered working poor, living on wages that barely cover housing and other basic necessities,” like clothing, shelter, and above all, food. 1 in 3 Arizona children grow up without access to the healthy sustenance they need to thrive and become the success stories of our future. While you’re giving thanks this holiday season, also consider giving back to one of the West Valley’s great local food banks and helping to bring these numbers down to 0!

    Here’s a look at 9 food banks in the West Valley, and how you can donate to them today:


    Hope for Hunger Food Bank

    • Located at 5605 N. 55th Ave. Glendale AZ 85301
    • Hours: 8:00am-12:00pm Monday-Thursday; closed Friday-Sunday

    Founded in 2011, the Hope for Hunger Food Bank works to provide emergency food assistance “with dignity and respect” to those in need. Whatever way you choose to donate to this organization, you help them feed over 5,000 families each month.

    How to Donate: You can drop off non-perishable food items, standard printing paper, and paper bags at the south side of the Hope for Hunger building. Volunteers will be there to weigh in your donation.


    Salvation Army

    • Located at 6010 W. Northern Ave. # 200 Glendale, AZ 85301; 17420 Ave. of the Arts Surprise, AZ 85378

    Dedicated to helping those in need without discrimination, the Salvation Army is a global force for good. By making financial donations, donating food and clothing, airline miles, and more, you help this organization reach one step closer to solving issues like global hunger, poverty, and human trafficking.

    All Faith Community Services

    • Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday, closed Saturday-Sunday (Goodyear & Buckeye)

    A faith-based self-help organization, All Faith Community Services provides basic emergency needs and other long-lasting training services to those in need. Your donation goes to support their food distribution and work programs, effectively reducing the recurrence of poverty in the community.

    St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance

    • Hours: 9:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday, closed Saturday-Sunday

    Helping those less fortunate gain food and other needed assistance, St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance is on the front lines for those affected by hunger, poverty, and tragedy. Even the smallest donation of $1.00 can ensure that 7 people in the community go to bed with full stomachs.

    Phoenix Rescue Mission

    The Phoenix Rescue Mission is a safe space for those in our community who struggle with homelessness, addiction, and trauma. By making a one-time donation or becoming a regular giver, you can transform the lives of thousands and help them on the path to healing.

    Neighborhood Ministries

    • Located at 1918 W. Van Buren St. Phoenix, AZ 85009
    • Hours: 9:30am-11:00am Friday; closed Saturday-Thursday

    Serving over 3,000 individuals a year, the Neighborhood Ministries has been providing for the basic needs of community members since 1982. Your donations can help keep this founding arm of the organization going and change the lives of countless people.

    The Society of St. Vincent de Paul

    Providing for the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of those in the community who have nowhere else to turn, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been serving in Arizona since 1946. Your money, goods, and other donations help to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteers and programs that show our needy that they matter.

    How to Donate: You can make an online monetary donation of any amount, or you can schedule a pickup of your car or other items for the thrift store and they will come right to your door (it’s never been easier to give back!).

    Andre House

    • Located at 213 S. 11th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85007
    • Hours: 10:00am-4:00pm & 5:30pm-6:30pm Saturday-Thursday; closed Friday

    Meeting the immediate needs of those who come through their doors each day, the staff and volunteers at Andre House also act as impartial listening ears for individuals who just need someone to talk to. Your donations help to keep the programs at Andre House running, so all of our needy brothers and sisters have a place to go to where they can be heard.

    Tolleson Food Bank

    • Located at 10 S. 93rd Ave. Tolleson, AZ 85353
    • Hours: 6:00am-9:00am Tuesday; closed Wednesday-Monday

    For over 25 years, the Tolleson Food Bank has been helping to feed families in the West Valley through food boxes and other donated items. Your donations help individuals, other food banks, and ministries be able to pick up goods to return to the surrounding communities.

    How to Donate: You can make a monetary donation to the Food Bank through Paypal. You can also donate cans and dry goods directly to the Food Bank.
